It’s Independence Day in the US…

An important day to thank and appreciate all military personnel and people who help us stay free and safe. As a 1st generation American from parents who came from a country where things are not as easy… I know we are SO blessed to live in this amazing country where we can pretty much do whatever we want AND decide to reinvent ourselves whenever we choose.

Is there something you can choose to free yourself from today?

• Maybe a past experience or “failure”
• A low self-image or pattern of self-talk
• Someone in your life who doesn’t believe in your dreams and works hard to make sure you doubt yourself and your abilities (I affectionately call these types of people “dreamkillers” – Jeff & I both were able to free ourselves of people like this in our past)
• A self-imposed, self-destructive pattern (maybe eating fast food, not exercising, or procrastination)

These are all things you can CHOOSE to FREE yourself from… right now. Granted, some of them may take time to really change, but it doesn’t have to take that long… You do have a choice.

Whatever you decide to change and free yourself from… write it down clearly, keep it somewhere where you see it EVERY day (and sometimes you’ll want to change whatever sign you put up… because you’ll get acclimated to it and get “used” to it until you don’t “see” it anymore!) Whenever you find yourself falling back into old, self-destructive patterns, choose again… and again… and again…

Keep a journal of appreciation (not a negative diary!) chronicaling your small victories and celebrating your progress…

Change does not have to be difficult once you are aware of what you want to be free of…

A few things I’m SO happy and appreciative of freeing myself from:

• panic attacks
• friends and family who became dreamkillers in my life (I kept the supportive ones & made new wonderful friends)
• self-imposed limitations on what I could achieve

So celebrate today by giving yourself the best Independence Day gift and freeing yourself from something keeping you from a joyous Life, emotional, financial and mental Liberty and so you can continue your Pursuit of Happiness.

Social Media and Social Marketing really is a new frontier on the Internet. There are so many ways you can use the major sites like Facebook, YouTube, EzineArticles, your blog, and Twitter. You are only limited to your imagination and creativity.

I continue to get a kick out of the people who say that Social Marketing is just a waste of time on the Internet. Didn’t someone once say that they could only see the need for a handful of desktop computers? We all know how that one turned out, right?

The power of the testimonial

If you want to sell a product or service, we all know that you have just got to have testimonials, right? Testimonials elicit the power of social proof. In other words, You could say your product is great, and some might believe that to be true. But many would remain skeptical, thinking that of course it is easy to say your product is great.

But when other people say your product or service is great, those statements become much more believable. Social proof is one of the most powerful forces in advertising. Why else would they put other people in ads? Especially famous people who have nothing at all to do with the product. This is the power of social proof.

Social Proof Meets Social Marketing

Twitter is one of the best Social Marketing tools to use to build your traffic. When done right you can literally send lots of traffic wherever you want it to go.

One of the best places to invite your Twitter followers is to an opt-in page where they can get more great information from you in exchange for their email address. In this article we’re going to take a closer look at how to invite your followers to your opt-in page.

How to Do It Wrong

* The best way to guarantee that no one will visit your opt-in page from Twitter is to burst on the scene and begin hammering people to opt-in to something before you have established and built any kind of relationship at all. This is the fast road to being ignored and unfollowed on Twitter.

* Another way to do it wrong is to only extend an invitation every now and then. Twitter is a constantly moving environment and if you extend invitations only infrequently, many people will miss them and your message.

* And yet a third way to do it wrong is to leave out the benefits the prospect will get when they opt-in. These are the invitations that look like this “Go to MyGreatWidget.com to get my great widget.” I can hardly wait to get there…

How to Do It Right

* First of all, establish and build relationships on Twitter first. Build your followers list and interact with them. Ask questions and offer suggestions. Become a helpful presence before you do anything else.

* When you build relationships, you can then extend regular invitations. Hardly a day goes by where I don’t extend an invitation to an opt-in page, people respond in droves, and it builds my email list.

* Be very clear on the benefits the prospect will get when they opt-in. “Claim your instant access to 2 free article templates so you can create more articles in less time” beats the heck out of “Go here to join my list” every time.

* Don’t be shy about extending the invitation. You are offering good stuff for free. Some my criticize you for it, but remember, on the Internet you need a “thick skin and open heart.”

How to Automate It

You can automate your opt-n page invitations by using a free automation services like HootSuite.com With HootSuite you can schedule your opt-in invitations in advance and have them go out while you are doing other things.

And another great way to automate the process is to use a service like http://TweetAdderNow.com While HootSuite allows you to schedule your invitations in advance, they will only run once. Tweet Adder Now allows you to schedule your invitations and set them up to run over and over on a schedule you create.

This one technique has helped to build both my Twitter followers list and my email list.
