[Entrepreneurial Karma Card] Consistently watering your business dreams with action…

Did you try the “getting quiet” (aka non-scary or too woo-woo way of talking about meditation) method to have a business breakthrough from last week’s cartoon? I went to a meditation class on Monday night and WOW – my productivity and laser focus has absolutely soared!

If you gave it a go, I’d love to hear about any breakthroughs you had, either write me an email to
or post it in the comments below…

And, big thanks and hugs to our loyal and amazing subscriber Cheryl Pickett for suggesting we turn them into actual, physical cards!

For today’s Entrepreneurial Karma card (yes, we officially named them) I’ve got a concept that can help you get out of “floundering around” in your business and get to seeing consistent, actual results.

“The grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it.”

entrepreneurial karma card - take consistent action

entrepreneurial inspiration card

Here’s a quick list of the 4 things that will help you build a very solid online business foundation:

  • grow your list community
  • communicate consistently with your list community
  • create products and services that serve your community in a big way
  • make offers often & then serve with abandon

While you are creating and growing these, it sometime feels like NOTHING IS HAPPENING

But, it is… it’s just not very noticeable yet.

Keep fertilizing, keep watering, keep believing and keep focused.

When you do find yourself getting distracted and going for the next big “bright and shiny object” that looks like a quick fix to get things growing FAST…

Stop.

Circle back to these basics… have you been working on these? Consistently? Courageously?

Really?

And then get back to work on creating your solid business foundation!

I believe in YOU,

 Maritza

P.S. I’ve got a running list of these cards I’ll be creating. I’d REALLY love to know what you would like some inspiration with (and maybe a teeny, tiny, loving “kick in the pants”)

Is it about:

  • asking for the sale
  • dealing with online trolls / mean-spirited critics
  • feeling like you’re enough of an expert
  • what to do when you fail big time
  • how to let go and outsource
  • spinning your wheels in “perfectionism

Let me know in the comments below, so I can add it to the list and create an Entrepreneurial Karma card just for you…

My favorite part of this cartoon? The middle panel… where if you do the work consistently, growth will happen, even when you can’t see it for a while.

I hope this helps you stay the course! And seriously, let me know what you want to see next…

Love this cartoon Maritza! It does take work (ACTION), but consistency gets those beautiful bloomed flowers.

I love your quote about “The grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it.” It is SO TRUE with everything in life, the more work and effort you put into things (life, business, relationships, children, etc.) the better life will be all around. Thank you so much!!

    • Maritza Parra on April 9, 2014 at 9:26 pm

Thanks so much Celest! Yes, it is all about consistency! Thankfully, I’m much better at it with business than the garden… I actually have a little bit of a “black thumb” 😉

Another inspiring message in the cartoon and throughout this article with other inspirations. Thank you Maritza! The Entrepreneurial Inspiration makes for a perfect reminder to cut out and read every day. For some days it looks like nothing is happening…yet with patient nurturing and believing every day, growth will come steadily and, be strong and tall like the mighty oak.

    • Maritza Parra on April 9, 2014 at 9:27 pm

Thanks Dean! That is the main thing I hope people get out of this… sometimes when it looks like nothing’s happening, there’s still a lot of growth going on if you keep your focus where it should be!

Love this card Maritza. It is so easy as entrepreneurs to get sidetracked rather than focused on what will have the best affect. Also I love the idea of the germinating seed, that the business won’t necessarily grow overnight – but when it does ‘flower’ it is worth the wait. Really looking forward to the next cartoon.

    • Maritza Parra on April 9, 2014 at 9:35 pm

Thanks Christine, yes, it’s worth the wait and the laser focus…

Just what I needed. Growing a business in the “real” world can take 3 to 5 years. But in the online space, it seems that if you’re not making a profit by the 3rd month, you’re a failure. When in reality, you still need to continue watering and nurturing it until it blossoms. There’s a lot of pressure to do everything faster on the internet. When really, it’s all just self-inflicted!

Thanks for the reminder. I think just allowing yourself the space to let it grow without forcing it too much takes a lot of the pressure off. Great article!

    • Maritza Parra on April 9, 2014 at 9:38 pm

Paul, you are SO spot on! So many people think it should be much more “instant” when online… and they also want to do everything when it’s online – but in a “real world” biz, you’d NEVER do the plumbing, electricity, renovations of the space, etc… yet everyone online tries to do just that, trying to do everything which also waters down their focus – great insight!

Really great Maritza . I love the idea of turning them into cards. I do have a box of Karma cards from Wayne Dyer. Very helpful to flip through when you are in a mood funk. I love your metaphors. Just in time for Spring with a fresh new perspective! Thanks Maritza !

    • Maritza Parra on April 9, 2014 at 9:40 pm

Maureen, love Wayne Dyer so much… I have some Osho Zen cards I’ve used for years! They inspired me to want to make some – bit an entrepreneurial / somewhat spiritual bent!

  7. kate erickson on April 9, 2014 at 6:06 pm

Hi Maritza! Love the analogy. You have to keep nurturing and be PATIENT… it will come to those who continue to provide value! I especially love your point about communicating consistently with your list community – if they don’t ever hear from you, then why would you expect them to follow you? Thanks for this!

    • Maritza Parra on April 9, 2014 at 9:41 pm

Kate, thanks and oh yes, that communication with your subscribers is so key – and y’all are a fantastic example of what to do right!

Love these Maritza, thanks so much for the reminders! So much happens ‘under the soil,’ and ‘behind the scenes’ with nature. Spring always comes, just sometimes it takes longer – like this year it is sloooooow, with spurts of good weather and then more snow, cold and tons of rain. My business has felt like this too…but the growth is happening, birds are migrating back, the buds beginning to show. Steady, steady, stay the course, keep doing the work, focusing, and watering, cultivating, breathing and letting go…over and over….Love the nature metaphor, thanks!

    • Maritza Parra on April 10, 2014 at 9:32 am

Sandy, thanks so much! What a thoughtful and beautifully written comment! ” Steady, steady, stay the course, keep doing the work, focusing, and watering, cultivating, breathing and letting go…over and over…” <== yes! I actually started doing these cartoons as a little reminder of all this for myself 😉 By the way, I just adore the feeling of your website - you are up to great things for people and our furry loved ones.

      • Sandy Rakowitz on April 10, 2014 at 12:43 pm

Aww, Thanks So much Maritza! Staying steady…lots of cultivating! lol…

  9. Josh Brown on April 10, 2014 at 9:07 am

Love this cartoon and its message. It happens everyday. People abandon brilliant ideas, disregard great thoughts, and focus on what others are doing instead of what they are doing. Keep em coming…….

    • Maritza Parra on April 10, 2014 at 9:33 am

Josh, EXACTLY!! and then they see other people successfully doing what their brilliant idea was… Thanks for your comment!

  10. Valerie on April 10, 2014 at 10:30 am

Maritza, This message is so perfect. It’s simple yet profoundly true. This spring, as I work my business, I have been tending my garden at the very same time. The foundations are set and the landscaper can handle the basic maintenance while I plant the new color spots for the season. I can be sure all is taken care of while I focus on the growth. The cartoon says it all. Ask, Act, Receive. Plant, nurture, bloom. Every season has different needs I love it!!
Thank you for all that you do.

      Valerie, what a beautiful comment!

      “Ask, Act, Receive.
      Plant, nurture, bloom.”

And I love the nuance you add to this conversation! The importance of setting the foundation and then bringing on help so you can focus on the growth and you outsource the basic maintenance! <== brilliant. (and gave me an idea for another cartoon!) so much love to you!

  11. Jessica on April 10, 2014 at 1:49 pm

Another great Entrepreneurial Karma card! I got excited this morning to see it in my inbox! Again I feel like you really sent the message at just the right time that I needed it. Thank you!

An idea for inspiration for me would be around getting out there and risking rejection or criticism.

    • Maritza Parra on April 17, 2014 at 1:50 pm

Thanks Jessica! Thank you for the suggestion, we just put it on the cartoon-list! <3

  12. Justin Williams on April 11, 2014 at 4:43 am

This is really great Maritza! like every business its not always rainbows and butterflies. that’s why we gather all we can on summer so that when winter comes we still have some. I know its difficult to handle a business but how can we appreciate the sunshine without a little rain! thanks for sharing this. Very Inspiring!

    • Maritza Parra on April 17, 2014 at 1:56 pm

      Love it
“business its not always rainbows and butterflies” <== so true!! And I love the way you put it about working summer so we have for winter (idea for new cartoon percolating...)

  13. Sandy Donovan on April 11, 2014 at 9:28 am

I like this common analogy put into pictures. Ask,act, receive – that’s great! I do really like the cartoons, they are fun but really get the message across. Thanks for sharing your art with us!

  14. Amber Hurdle on April 11, 2014 at 10:39 am

Well, you know my favorite part is the “ACT” sequence. That is the part that gets the flywheel going. I’m loving your cartoons, girlfriend! I know my peeps would love one about finding their way out of feelings of overwhelm! xo

  15. Charlie Poznek on April 13, 2014 at 11:10 pm

So true Maritza, thanks for this reminder! Sometimes I get caught up in launching, but it’s important to remember we should also be constantly evolving. Can’t wait for your next Karma Card!

    • Maritza Parra on April 17, 2014 at 1:56 pm

yes! launching > testing > tweaking > evolving! love it!

  16. Anthony Tran on April 16, 2014 at 12:12 pm

Hi Maritza, this is a really great blog post. Love the creative “Toons” also… this is a huge takeaway that I got… “When you do find yourself getting distracted and going for the next big “bright and shiny object” that looks like a quick fix to get things growing FAST… STOP!” Growing a business takes time and patience…. so true.

    • Maritza Parra on April 17, 2014 at 1:58 pm

It’s so funny, I actually started these cartoons because I had the cable tv turned off in my home so I could fully focus on only positive, empowering things and cartooning helped me to focus on the lessons I really needed to “get”… so I really started them for myself AND I love that they’re resonating with y’all!
