[Entrepreneurial Karma Card] Do What Scares You…

As an entrepreneur, you will encounter fear of launching… I guarantee it. If you don’t, you’re not taking enough risks!

It might be fear of:

  • “hanging your shingle” and announcing you’re open for business (“Will anyone care? Will anyone show up? Can this really work?”)
  • creating your first product, sales page and sending it out (“What if no one buys?”)
  • confidently asking for the sale (“Can they hear the shaking in my voice?”)
  • raising your prices (“What will my clients / subscribers think?”)
  • saying NO to a “golden opportunity” (“Even though my gut says NO, I’d be dumb to pass this up.” “What if this is the best opportunity I ever get?”)
  • launching something brand new for you (“Will this work as I’ve envisioned?”)
  • on and on the list goes…

Taking risks is a huge part of putting your business dreams out there… If you’re not willing to take risks, you will not be successful.

The most interesting thing is that most of the time what’s stopping us is our own internal fears, our own resistance, what I like to call the “inner monsters” that we create ourselves!

When you muster up the strength to quiet your “inner monster”, stop fighting them, ignore them, whatever it takes – and just go for it anyway, most of the time… your biggest fears never, ever happen.

And the more you do this, the more you realize that part of the entrepreneurial journey is launching > evaluating > tweaking and it ALWAYS will be.

This week’s Entrepreneurial Karma Card is:

The Monster Behind the Door is Never As Big As You Think It Is

 inspirational cartoon for entrepreneurs
My hope is that it inspires you to:

  • launch more often
  • take more risks
  • get on more stages
  • make more offers
  • shine your light more brightly

I hope it helps you to do whatever it is you may have been putting off, that has been scaring you a little because it’s so big…

Getting over my fears and doing what scares me is something I’ve gotten really good at, from riding stallions who could hurt me, to taking my bath & beauty products to the Dallas Market Center, to breeding and selling my first horses as a teenager (yes, I’m a Texas horse wrangler), to being interviewed by Oprah, to speaking on HUGE stages (after getting over severa panic attacks) – ALWAYS and with 100% confidence, I can tell you that there is no way I would have ever had the success I’ve been blessed to have WITHOUT feeling the fear and doing it anyway…

Don’t allow the fear of what “could happen” to keep you resistant and fighting against your success.

YET I still deal with this, too (and most likely always will if I want to really continue to grow) which is one of the reasons I had to create this card!

Let me know in the comments what you’re going to do today that scares you OR how you’re going to quiet that “inner monster”!

I believe in YOU!

I’ll start by saying I’ve been putting off the launch of my podcast!! I don’t think I’ve ever been as transparent about my beliefs (and my appreciation for the wide and varied beliefs of others) as I will be on this show… And I believe money is a spiritual exchange of energy and you really have to go deep to unlock your business potential – that may turn some people off… and feels a little risky to me – but I’m doing it! Next week, in addition to another cartoon, you’ll get my first show… 😀

  2. Jessica on April 17, 2014 at 12:45 pm

Maritza, it may turn some people off, but it will also turn people on…in a non-sexual way that is 😉 The greatest risks often lead to the greatest rewards! I would LOVE to listen to a podcast that touches on spirituality in business. The topic sometimes comes up in other shows and they always preface it with being “woo-woo”. I think it deserves to be discussed without undermining its importance. I’m soooo excited!

    • Maritza Parra on April 17, 2014 at 2:05 pm

Jessica LOL yes my vision for the podcast is definitely to turn people on, in that way only 😉 I’m so excited to launch and have gotten great feedback from a little clip I sent out as a test… I’m ready to let me work expand in the world and help people start and grow their online businesses successfully.

I love your new post. It really hits home. My favorite parts: If you’re not willing to take risks you will not be successful, and Most of the time your bigger fears never happen.
Love, love ,love the cartoon and the message and can’t wait for your podcast. Knowing you, it will be informative, interesting and fun.

    • Maritza Parra on April 17, 2014 at 2:06 pm

Thanks Chris! So true, most of the time your fears never even happen! We all can benefit from remembering this…

  4. Celest Horton on April 17, 2014 at 1:44 pm

Love this Maritza! Those fears are scary, but without them it means we aren’t take the risks to really grow. Love your cartoons…so inspirational.

    • Maritza Parra on April 17, 2014 at 2:07 pm

Thanks Celest! And one of these days, I’m modeling a cartoon off of you!

  5. Maureen Murphy on April 17, 2014 at 3:35 pm

Love your post! I can’t wait to hear your podcast! We do have to take risks or we won’t grow. I think it is scarier if we don’t ! Now to put that into action!

    • Maritza Parra on April 18, 2014 at 11:03 am

You are so right Maureen! I like to say “playing safe is the riskiest thing you can do”

  6. Gary Parris on April 17, 2014 at 4:21 pm

    Hello Maritza,

You turn me on to. In that way of course. Good stuff.

    Gary

    • Maritza Parra on April 18, 2014 at 11:06 am

      Gary, lol! I’m glad you’re a long-time subscriber or I might’ve gotten a little freaked out! 😛

  7. Paul Colaianni on April 17, 2014 at 5:26 pm

Just what I needed. Actually, could have used this a few months ago! But still, facing my fears on a daily basis. A lot of “what ifs” for sure! Love the cartoon and the message. Very motivational. Thank you! Feel the fear, do it anyway. Gotta make that my mantra : )

    • Maritza Parra on April 18, 2014 at 11:09 am

I’m so glad Paul! I know you have a ton to give and so many ways to serve and profit…

  8. Anthony Tran on April 17, 2014 at 11:45 pm

Great post Maritza! You are spot on… We all have fears and deal with the monster on the other side of the door. Face your fears head on and you will be amazed of how much you can achieve.

    • Maritza Parra on April 18, 2014 at 11:11 am

So excited for you, Anthony! Just heard about the launch of your amazing new program! <== You are so doing it!

  9. Charlie Poznek on April 18, 2014 at 2:20 am

This is so true – the thing we’re afraid of is always worse in our own minds than in actuality, and the time we spend thinking about it is almost always more involved than the time spent solving the problem itself.

    • Maritza Parra on April 18, 2014 at 11:22 am

Yes, I think preparation and thinking things through is important but we worry and stress a lot unnecessarily – seems like lots of wasted energy, right?

    • Amber Hurdle on April 19, 2014 at 2:36 pm

I LOVE that thought, Charlie! It’s a matter of where you invest your energy! I know I have to watch myself in that area…I’m an analyzer! Maritza, today Im going out to our river ranch and writing part of my book! Thanks for the challenge! XO (P.S. LOL @ Jessica!)

  10. Sandy Donovan on April 18, 2014 at 7:57 am

I’m feeling this right now! I needed this. That monster is looking huge, but I guess I’ll have to open the door to find out. Can’t wait to hear your first episode! I’m really interested to learn how you view money and how to dig deep to open up the opportunities in business. Can’t wait!

    • Maritza Parra on April 18, 2014 at 11:24 am

Sandy, so excited to get the first of many episodes out! And talking about all this stuff in the show! I sometimes experience this monster as huge but the more inspired action I take, the smaller it gets when I finally see the results!

  11. Dean Patino on April 18, 2014 at 9:54 am

Such a powerful illustration Maritza, thank you for showing us all that no matter our journey of successes in life we can all fall prey to believing in the giant monster…which turns out to be tiny once revealed.

It’s the old 80/20 rule. 80% of the things we worry about NEVER happen and the other 20% we can deal with. I am really excited for you and am very anxious for your podcast! Next week is going to be such a great celebration for you and all of us to enjoy it!

    • Maritza Parra on April 18, 2014 at 11:25 am

      Thanks as always Dean!

  12. Christine on April 18, 2014 at 6:59 pm

Though, if you don’t launch, you can’t success. Also, I truly think that the more you step out, the more confident you will become. OK. 1,2,3 step …

  13. Gary Parris on April 18, 2014 at 9:29 pm

Don’t want to freak you out, oops.

  14. kate erickson on April 19, 2014 at 2:21 pm

I couldn’t have said it better myself, Maritza – LOVE THIS! Doing what scares you not only makes you stronger, but it also gets you one step closer to doing the NEXT thing that scares you. Progress! 🙂

  15. Alex Harris - AlexDesigns on April 22, 2014 at 3:54 pm

So creative Maritza. There will always be monsters! Faster you knock them down, the fast you will grow.

  16. Justin Willams on April 24, 2014 at 6:04 am

People have this “fear of the unknown” not knowing that its a part of learning. taking the jump and not being scared to fall is what keeps us apart from the losers and winners. So creative, I love the illustraion. Great work Maritza!
