[Love Note] Making Offers in Your Business is an Act of Love

Making Offers in Your Business is an Act of LoveLet me ask you a very important question:

Do you believe what you sell helps people?

  • Do believe your products and services are great?
  • Do you know that someone who buys from you will get more in value from your products and services that you receive in return (in the form of payment?)
  • Do you know that your products and services alleviate your customer’s pain?
  • Does it help them achieve something they desire?
  • Does your product or service help your customer do things more quickly?
  • Does it help them have more focus, confidence, and joy?
  • Do you know you are helping people with your products and services?

(Ok, so maybe that was more than just ONE very important question.)

If these things are true, then WHY do you sometimes get scared of making offers? Why do SO many people get uncomfortable about people who make offers?

I see this all the time with my coaching and consulting clients. I see this all the time with people who want to be entrepreneurs or those who want to grow their businesses.

Today I want to help you reframe making offers so you can help more people AND receive value in return.

If you’re scared of making offers:

Increase the value of what you’re offering so that each and every time someone buys from you, you KNOW they are receiving more in value from your product or service than what you are receiving in return (in the form of payment).

Another way that ALWAYS helps me get over the fear of making offers is to remember clients I’ve helped in the past. You can do the same.

Look at the results you’ve helped past clients achieve. Look at the pain and problems you’ve alleviated for them. There are more people out there with pain and problems who need you.

withholding offers is withholding loveWhen you withhold your offers, you withhold your help and ultimately your love.

3 things to think about so you become confident making offers:

1. Making Offers is an Act of Self-Love.

When you make an offer of your products and services, you are showing yourself LOVE.

In my entrepreneurial journey, when I give everything away for free, I’m not honoring the time, energy, and the persistence it’s taking to bring my product and/or service to life.

When you give things away for free or barter because you’re too scared to ask for the sale… you’re not loving your self.

2. Making Offers is an Act of Loving Your Products, Services and Your Message.

Back to my beginning questions…

Do you believe your products and services actually help your customers? Make life easier, make life better, save them time, energy effort, or bring them joy? If so, then making an offer in exchange for money is an act of love that shows respect for your products and services.

“When people don’t pay, they don’t pay attention.” ~ Joe Polish

I’d like to take that a little further. When people don’ pay, there isn’t a balanced exchange of value, and they therefore don’t VALUE your products and services.

3. Making Offers is an Act of Love Towards Your Prospective Client.

YES! If you have something you KNOW can help them and you do NOT offer it, you are doing them a great disservice. There’s nothing more powerful and rewarding than making an offer and hearing a “sigh of relief” from your new customer who just said “Yes!” to your offer.

You have what they need. Don’t hide it from them.

Do you get offended when people make offers? If you get offended when people make offers:

For those who get “offended” when people make offers… It’s probably a good idea for you NOT to get into entrepreneurship.

Why?

Because either:

  1. You have negative feelings about your own self worth and don’t believe you have the ability to create anything worthy enough to deserve payment. You project the negative feelings you have about yourself onto others and wonder how could anyone else think they have something of value to offer?
  2. Your mindset around making offers is one that will keep you from having the confidence to make them. Instead of feeling confident, you “sell from your heels” because you think other people are judging you as harshly as you judge them. (Hey, I think that might be “projection”, but *disclaimer* I’m not a psychologist though I like to play one on my blog…)

Recently, I saw someone who was “offended” that one of my colleagues was selling an online course.

This particular course can save people YEARS of their life researching and assembling an avalanche of information, so they can be successful much more quickly.

The argument and reason for “offense” was “you can find all that information online”.

Yes, someone could spend countless hours researching, assembling, trial-and-erroring to someday possibly see success. <== Why would you do that when there’s an incredibly focused and complete course ready and waiting for you?!

When you make offers for your products and services that help people, you are indeed engaging in an act of love.

If you’re trying to become an entrepreneur and you get offended by people selling their products and services, you are engaging in a subtle form of self-sabotage.

The next time you attempt to create or launch a new product, you’ll probably be feeling a little like this:

are you too scared to sell?

When you are offended at those who sell their products and services, it’s going to be incredibly difficult for you to be an entrepreneur. It would be better for you to stay in a job and get a steady paycheck.

When you answer “Yes!” to all the questions at the beginning of this post, you owe it to yourself, your potential clients, and to the world to make offers often.

You make several important points. We need to have faith in our products and the benefits that they bring to our customers so that we can be proud and therefore LOVE to make the offers with a spirit of service and generosity.

Love it Ann! Exactly, we have to have faith in our products and how they can help!

Maritza, I love your cartoons, they tell the story in a beautiful and touching way. Still, I don’t want to miss a word of your great written content. Thank you so much.

    • Maritza Parra on August 24, 2015 at 7:44 pm

Thanks Rita, I’m having fun doing them in a more “simplified” way than usual… they’re just so much fun to help me tell a story and make a point!

Wow, this really puts selling into perspective Maritza! Thank you for this gem. Along with the paradigm shift you elegantly presented to feel the value of selling offers, it’s also a great list I will use to ensure my offers have the value they truly need for my customers.

Coming from the mutli-million dollar sales guy… I take this as a huge compliment!

Your use of the written language, combined with such cute characters, work really well to help tell an important story and remind us that we are helping others, not just selling “something” and taking their money. Thanks.

    • Maritza Parra on August 24, 2015 at 7:46 pm

Love it Lori, thank you for that! Valuable storytelling is one of the things I want to continue to master…!

Maritza, you hit it head on! Offering my services is absolutely and act of love. It took some time to come to this understanding but now being years into my business my current and former clients tell me what my coaching has done for them, their business, and their families. I know now that when I don’t offer to help and receive compensation I am doing a disservice to my clients and myself.

    • Maritza Parra on August 24, 2015 at 7:50 pm

And the way you operate in everything is pure love Jodi… this SO applies to what you’re doing in the world!

  6. Daniel Vasquez on August 24, 2015 at 10:13 am

Great perspective and insight Maritza. It makes me look at the dollar as a “value token” vs just money.

    • Maritza Parra on February 11, 2016 at 10:17 am

“Value token” – great perspective Daniel! I love thinking of it as an energy exchange! It has to be balanced so it’s a win-win for all!

    Maritza,
You put a whole new spin on what it is to making offers or doing business in general. I have never seen or heard it expressed this way & it is the simpliest & best way of looking at it. Now when prospect act like we just want to sell them something, we can tell them, it is because we care about you & that is why I am offering this to you. Or I just have to be able to express it that way & they should get it. We have passion for helping those in need & this is the way to express that. Thank you for the lesson.

    • Maritza Parra on March 7, 2016 at 5:28 pm

Thanks so much for your comment Lorenzo! If you 1) know your product or service helps someone and 2) you give more in value than you receive – I believe we can do our part to heal the world – BIG statement I know… working on some more posts / videos / a book about this subject!
