7 Keys for Creating Magnetic List Building Content

Results Now Process, make money while you sleepOne of the things that many people don’t realize when they’re trying to start or grow their email list is that it starts with great content.

1. Dig for your super-niches.

What are the super-niches in your area of expertise? Where can you get super-specific and dig deeper to uncover more of how you can help?

Sometimes, it’s not so easy to see this because we are such experts in our fields. For my horse email list, there are at least 7 different super-niches within my expertise.

2. Keep a tickler file.

Invariably, you will get your best ideas at the worst possible times to record them. I get mine when meditating (yes, it’s about clearing your mind and I think that’s when a lot of the great big ideas can show up – when you’re being “quiet”)

You can get ideas from anywhere, reading, driving, at the gym. I always have a little notebook nearby and if all else fails, my smartphone with the handy voice recorder is usually nearby so I can quickly take a “voice note” for when I need a great content idea.

3. Use templates.

This makes it much easier to create content when it’s time to sit down to do it. Why re-invent the wheel?

4. Add more story.

You don’t only have to tell your own stories. Tell stories about your clients.Just be sure your stories have a purpose – educating, demonstrating, inspiring…

Create your own parables that are educational and inspirational stories that teach something to your that teach (there’s an awesome video guy creating an animated video about the story I created called “What came first, the product or the list?”

5. Come from the energy of abundance.

Don’t be afraid to give – there are some people who will just consume your free content and others who will want to go deeper and learn from you and get your help.

6. Stop the all-or-nothing thinking.

Do a little on list building each and every week (if not more) Many people think they have to spend a  lot of time creating their list building gift or that it must be perfect before putting it out into the world. Or, they just work on it way too long.

7. Start with the end in mind.

Be sure to reverse engineer your list building, make sure there’s a progression that goes from your free online content, leading your ideal prospect to opting into your free list building offer, leading to your paid products and services. You want it to create a logical flow.

More brilliant teachings from you Maritza, thank you! You had me at the first one! So incredibly valuable. Your podcast is not only a library of wealth for everyone to sky rocket from, it’s also such a positive inspiration!

Thanks Dean! That’s one of the things I like to do best, inspire people to do more, be more and have more! 🙂

Yes, Maritza, dig for super niches! I hear you. Initially, in Feb I said I wanted to explore different niches in the creative industry and see which one is more popular. Then, focus on that first.

Forget what I’d said previously. I decided to focus on part-time authors – those who wants to write their book despite having a full-time job or business. Now that I’ve made a choice, I can dig further and uncover more niches within the niche. And I still remember your advice of having different free offer for different niche. 😉

Yong, I’m so glad to hear that! Digging for super-niches is where it’s at – I have about 7 super-niches for my horse business alone!

All excellent point Martiza. For me personally, I like #4 the best – “add more story”.
To really make our points memorable, the power of story is second to none. Within the telling of stories, I try to remember this helpful reminder, “create emotional experiences”.

Joel, you’re great at pulling stories out of your guests!

Great suggestions! I love how your content is so actionable. I know my list magnets are better following your guidance.

Maritza, thank you for breaking that down. I had some ideas pop into my head as I was reading this and I got them down. Beginning with the end in mind as a list building strategy is definitely something I need to take a step back for. Thank you for the hit of inspiration!

Maritza, this is an amazing list. I could have saved so much time when I started list building if I had these strategies. I especially love having a tickler file and templates. I need to do more of #4 – adding story. This is a great reminder and I’m going to go back through my post schedule and make sure I have illustrations/stories my tribe can relate to for each upcoming post. Fantastic post. Thank You!
