Kate Erickson of Entrepreneur on Fire – Live from Podcast Movement 15 #PM15

Kate Erickson of Entrepreneur on Fire and Kate's Take podcast In this episode, I took a really fun risk by doing a live interview at Podcast Movement 2015 while livestreaming it through the Periscope platform.

When I found out that Buzzsprout would be sponsoring this live broadcasting booth, I jumped in and reserved a time. I knew immediately who I would want to interview, Kate Erickson of Entrepreneur on Fire and Kate’s Take podcasts.

Of course, Kate, a fearless entrepreneur was game and said “yes!”

Here are the big takeaways from our conversation:

1. Take Risks.

As a business owner, it’s up to you to find new opportunities to get more eyes on your business. I’ve only tried Periscope a few times and am loving it, so I thought it would be great to capture the interview and livestream it while we were recording it. It felt like a juggling act, but everything went right and it was fun. We also got exposure to new listeners and viewers from the livestream.

2. Build Community.

Kate, partner and the Community Leader of Entrepreneur on Fire has done an incredible job of this. They’ve leveraged the power of Facebook private groups to give access to buyers of their products to them and to each other. Absolutely brilliant, a lot of work and it was evident at the Podcast Paradise Meetup the night before the conference officially began that it is a truly loving and abundance minded group of people.

3. Always Be List Building.

The phenomenon of Entrepreneur on Fire is absolutely due to the incredible value and inspiration they bring to the entrepreneurial world. It’s also because they’ve been consistently building their email list every single chance they get. Their mantra is give more in value than you’re asking for, leading me to takeaway number 4…

4. Learn & Live the Principles of Abundance.

We’ve all heard “Read Napoleon Hill’s Think & Grow Rich” or Wallace Wattles’ The Science of Getting Rich. In it, one of the major themes is when you give more in value than you ask in return, you will become rich. Kate and John are an excellent examples of this, giving, giving, giving and also giving opportunities for their listeners and fans to invest in their programs and products.

One thing I’ve noticed is the amount of people who ask them if they can use a play on words like “on Fire” For example, “CPA on Fire”. They have never had a scarcity mindset about that or ever thought to say no.

5. Make Sure Your Team is Moving Towards the Same Bullseye.

This is particularly important when you are in business partnership with your life partner, as Kate and John are. Since my partner just jumped in with both feet to become a business partner as well, I wanted to know Kate’s advice for this.

6. Cultivate Your Courage through Community.

This is one of the best reasons to create or become part of a community, to have a place to be real and get the support you need as an entrepreneur to take those risks that will move your business forward.

7. Dealing with Haters.

Kate does this in 2 ways. By giving and receiving in their paid communities and also in mastermind groups in which she is a member. When the haters some out, and invariably when you’re being successful, they will appear from time to time, turn to your community for support. This includes looking back at the emails and social media posts of people you have helped, so you remember the value you give, instead of any criticism stemming from jealousy or scarcity minded people.

Bonus Takeaway 8: What’s On the Horizon for Podcasting?

Podcasting is getting more competitive. big companies with big budgets are getting into the action. For those of us who love the medium and do not have massive productions and teams, it’s going to be more and more important to dig deep and produce the best content we can and give straight from the heart!

Periscope Livestream Replay

We’re still getting used to Periscope so our awesome viewer comments and hearts didn’t show up in this replay. It was fun to know that we had lots of viewers and people sending Periscope hearts!
