4 Lessons from an Elite Mastermind Meeting

john lee dumas and maritza parraLast week, I went to San Diego to meet with the FireNation Elite mastermind group. I’ve been a part of a lot of high-level masterminds and it’s always been an important part of my business development. I always learn so much from being in person with other entrepreneurs who are pushing themselves further and faster. It’s important to surround yourself with people who can bring new ideas, help you unfold strategies that seems stuck and help you be more and do more in your business.

Here are 4 lessons from this Elite Mastermind group meeting:

Lesson 1: Protect Your Mindset.

This is one of the most important things you can do, in business, and actually in your whole life. Feed your mind with good informaiton and inspiration daily. Do mental gymnastics by getting great at guiding your mind, rather than letting it guide you. A great way to do this is to learn some form of meditation or visualization for entrepreneurs.

Lesson 2: Focus, focus , focus!

This was a huge issue for everyone. As the world gets more “connected”, it seems it’s harder and harder to focus. There’s always a bright and shiny object ready to take our attention, a new piece of technology or a new strategy to take our attention away from our goals.

My takeaway and advice to you is – after you set your big goals, divide them up into smaller bite sized pieces. Set a due date on every single one, including all the pieces to delegate. Then, take out the blinders and put them on!

Lesson 3: Just say “no”!

During my hotseat, I was talking about the need to start saying no to different opportunities, interview and speaking requests.

Kate raised her eyebrow and said “Maritza, you have read Essentialism, right?”

Ay chihuahua! YES… (Listen to Kate in this episode as she calls me out during the mastermind!)

Actually, Kate recommended it to me! Great book by Greg McKeown (go here to get it as a free audiobook with a trial at Audible) about the disciplined pursuit of doing less, but better. So I recommitted to saying “no” a lot more so that my reach grows as well as my impact.

Where in your business and your life can you start saying “no” to those things that do not bring you closer to your business goals?

Lesson 4: Always remember the CORE reason your business exists.

Usually, you think about your big why. And that is very important… yet we sometimes forget about the #1 important thing about our businesses. It’s not your product, it’s not your service, it’s not your email list.

Saturday, I spoke with a gentleman who joined my Laser List Building Master Mind group. Hes brilliant, very well-educated and in the health care industry. Anyone in the medical or health care field knows that right now is a very scary and unstable time. After he enrolled, I realized that every single time I allow fear or self-doubt to get in my way, I’m letting him (and other people I can serve) down – big time.

That’s what you’re doing too when you allow fear, self-doubt, bright and shiny objects and distraction prevent you from expanding your reach and making a bigger impact with your business.

One of the best ways to serve your prospective clients and customers is by building your email list. To reserve your space at the next List Building Workshop, click here and I’ll see you on the webinar!

Maritza such brilliant insights shared here, thank you! Funny isn’t it about mindset? Many of us have heard about it so many times and one might think, “Okay I get it.”. Yet, as we can see, mindset is so important to stay well, top of mind on. It’s the number 1 struggle of entrepreneurs far above and beyond other important areas such as how to do something, etc.

Really appreciate your always brilliant show of leadership, this article is another powerful example of that. Anyone who takes these 4 points to heart along with action on them will be a huge success.

Dean, mindset is everything… yet we all do so little to care for it, especially in this noisy world. It’s even more important now because it’s so easy to be reactive!

Maritza, thanks for summarizing this. I was so bummed to miss it. This gives me a little sense of what I would have heard for me.

    HI Maritza!

Great post and it was lovely to meet you in person!

I like the reminder that you mention in step 4, It’s not about the money, business or anything else, It’s about the customer and how we can help them get what they need.

Thanks for your contribution to this world 🙂

Thanks for this post Maritza. It’s a great recap of what we learned last week (was also great to meet you in person).

I love point #3 and have already used it a couple of times this week. I just have to remind myself “If it’s not a ‘hell yeah!’ it’s a no!”. Over and over.

    • Maritza Parra on March 31, 2015 at 2:05 pm

Exactly! *doublehighfive* to you David for saying no!

Maritza, a great set of lessons to start the week focused and productive as well as to apply consistently to our business and personal life long term. Thank you.

Ugh, you hit the nail on the head, Maritza! Mindset, focus, saying no, and keeping your customers top of mind in all your activities are crucial to, not only run a successful online business, but to be happy about having a successful online business. Thank you for continuing to point out where the focus should be.

Excellent recap of the day’s events! Thank you for the reminders. The entire event was a BLAST. Meeting face-to-face makes all the difference in the world.

Hi Maritza, yes to no! I’ve been rejecting opportunities that don’t serve my purpose. I’ve browsed the book Essentialism previously. Just borrowed it from the library recently. Can’t wait to read it!

    • Maritza Parra on March 31, 2015 at 2:07 pm

Faydra, these are all great for you as you’re on the verge of a big launch and it always seems things “happen” when we’re about to take big leaps! Cheering you on from cyberspace! XOXO, Maritza

Maritza Parra – It was so nice seeing you at our Elite Mastermind Meeting! I am always impressed at the work that you do and the content that you provide. I am appreciative of the reminders about our special day. It is hard to remember everything and here you are,, taking notes for us and giving it back to us in audio form. Always interesting to meet in person and learn that many of us have some of the same things in common. Better still, having others offer suggestions on how to continue to push forward and keep the momentum going. Thanks!
