Why Creativity is Great for your Business

why creativity is great for your business

What exactly is creativity?

the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.

If you’re a busy entrepreneur, why in the world would I recommend taking any of your valuable time to indulge in creativity?

I believe that the dream to start a business is a creative endeavor.

Researcher Brene Brown says brene-brown

“Creativity embeds knowledge so that it can become practice. We move what we’re learning from our heads to our hearts through our hands.

Creativity is the ultimate act of integration.”

Here are some of the benefits of starting (or trying) a creative practice:

  • requires risk taking and vulnerability
  • allows you to access your intuition and over time invites you to trust yourself, even when you don’t know exactly where the “finish line” is or what it will look like.
  • cultivates resiliency
  • invites innovation
  • builds confidence
  • strengthens your problem solving skills
  • promotes brain health and engagement in all areas of life (and business)
  • give your brain a healthy break, without going as far as numbing
  • focused, distracted time allows you to gain clarity in other areas of your life (and business)

Some ways you can practice creativity:

  • art journaling
  • singing
  • playing an instrument
  • cooking
  • doodling
  • writing
  • comedy improv

These all require imagination, ideas and taking risks. I’m taking a comedy improv class that starts in a few weeks to stretch my creativity muscle.

As the great Maya Angelou has said: Maya Angelou creativity

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”

In addition to helping you have more courage, resilience and risk taking in your business, creativity is medicine for your soul.

I love this, Maritza. I’m going to explore ways that I can be more creative so I can to explore who I am and what I want to bring to the world.

I actually stopped being creative for a while, thinking “that seems like a self-indulgent waste of time” yet I’ve found that my most productive times in business are when I’m dipping my toes into creative endeavors!

This is great Maritza. Reminds me of the saying, “We are what we eat.” Surrounding ourselves with creativity will sure spawn more of it. Thank you for leading by example as always. With all your incredible creativity, you continue to enhance it by signing up for a comedy improv class. You’re already so witty, they will be in for a treat!

Dean, I’m actually a bit scared about the improv class! We will see what happens… what I do know is that it will somehow help me in my communication and speaking skills. *eek* 🙂

Maritza, I am so lined up with this!

After being so immersed in the leadership world for such a long time, over the past six months I have taken up…wait for it…

    …painting!

It has so made it easier to relax, and dare I say a bit more innovative!
