30 Days of LOA for Entrepreneurs – Getting Rid of Your Personal History

drop your limiting beliefs In today’s episode, I start with an ancient parable about 2 monks. The moral of this story is to remind you to let go of whatever baggage you may be carrying. Let go of regret and any limiting beliefs this may have caused you so you can focus on the now and moving forward. One of the most wasted emotion we can ever have is regret. There’s nothing short of a time machine that can change the past or change your history. The only thing you do have a say in, the only thing you do have control over is now.

Bad or unpleasant things, failures and mistakes may have happened, but they can only have the meaning that you choose to give them. They cannot have hold over you unless you allow them to. A belief is just a thought you’ve thought over and over. It’s just a thought. You can guide and mold your own thoughts and emotions which is really what law of attraction is about.

The issue is that we’re often too lazy or overwhelmed to guide them and this is exactly what the next 30 days is all about – helping you stay focused on the now and on creating the opportunities you do want, so you can take action on them. (Tweet this:) (Remember that “hidden” word in Law of Attraction…? #ACTION.

So today, take a few minutes sometime during the day to think about this:

What personal history / what disempowering story are you clinging to – that is keeping you from reaching the next level in your business?

When you become aware of this limiting personal history, then you regain some power… And when you find yourself automatically telling the same old stories, just stop where you are, decide to be like the monk and let go of your perceived faults or limitations and change your focus to what you can do now. No guilt, no judgment, be happy you noticed and caught it!

Something that has always helped me let go of limiting beliefs is creating a fun ritual around letting them go. I’m a huge traveler and have done this in many places, including Macchu Picchu, on a tiny fishing boat (the “Queen Linda”) in the Nile, and in Cambodia. I’ll make a list of limiting beliefs, any things I regret, negative recurring thoughts and then I either rip them into tiny shreds or if I can, I burn them.

This serves to show myself kinesthetically and psychologically that I’m ready to leave these things in the past and move forward without them. It’s also is an integrity issue and helps me to honor myself. If I say I’m letting go and I actually do something about it, I feel like I’m honoring myself. And, when those pesky things come up I can say “nope, I left that behind” and focus on the now and what I can do to move forward from here. You don’t have to travel to far off lands to do this… your backyard or balcony works well too!

And tomorrow, I’ll be talking about the mechanics (and a bit of the science) behind Law of Attraction, why and how it works so you can bring more of what you do want into your business…

Maritza, I was anxiously waiting for your gift of the 30 days of LOA. I really enjoy them and learn a lot from your past 30 days series.
There are many important things in the message today and for me a key one is: getting rid of your personal history. We all tend to hold on to it to different degrees and this is a big one I have to work on. I will be seriously working on letting go of limiting beliefs that stop me from moving forward. I don’t have to carry this kind of thing on my back for the rest of my life. I need to learn to ” spring clean ” my emotions and my memory so I can move forward, open to the possibilities to be even more successful than today. Thank you for always being there encouraging us to move smarter and forward.

Thanks Susan! I’ve been looking forward to doing another of this series again! Love the idea of “spring cleaning”

I love the monks story. Sometimes it is very difficult to let go and even if the thing or action or….is not there any longer, it is still present in our minds stopping us from being open to the possibilities.
And that connects directly to regret. As you point out it is such a wasted emotion. No matter what we do, we can learn from the experience but we can not change the past.
I am putting in my vision board, bright and clear:
“The only thing you do have a say in, the only thing you do have control over is NOW.
And I will imagine you watching over my shoulder to celebrate with me in my progress.
    Thank you Maritza.

So cool for you to put that on your vision board – I was playing with mine this weekend and I think I’ll add something about staying in the now to it – Thanks Rita <3

Oh boy, Maritza, love this one! I completely agree, regret IS such a wasted emotion, and so many people are stuck in their past stories and false belief systems. Thank you for the reminder!

Karen, and it does not have to be as hard as we make it to STOP and pivot to now and what we do want – really excited to be talking about this stuff for the next 30 days!

Maritza, you highlight such an important point. Regret keeps one anchored to the past. Many of us also have a fear of failure which is a fantasy future reality that you don’t want to have happen. Taking action in the present is the way to move toward your goal without regret and fear slowing you down or stopping you. Great post!!

    • Maritza Parra on November 17, 2014 at 10:51 am

      John,

“fear of failure which is a fantasy future reality” <== what a fabulous point! And the more entrepreneurs focus on the reality they don't want, the more likely they'll create it! I jkust love the way you stated it...

Thank you for doing this series! I’m really excited about applying the law of attraction to my business and life.

    • Maritza Parra on November 17, 2014 at 10:52 am

Jessica, I love doing these for myself too! It really gets me super-focused on creating what I want…

This is a really powerful episode, Maritza. As a coach I’ve peeled back many layers of limiting beliefs for myself and my client. Yet, there’s always more and they are always overcome by acknowledging that they exist, challenging the belief that has come to the surface, and getting into immediate action. Thank you!

Another uplifting and helpful podcast episode, thank you Maritza! The sun comes up every day no matter what, thus time to look forward and leave regrets behind. So much to look forward to!

Maritza. Absolutely! Positively! The Ghost of both GUILT and regret really poo poo on our positive psyche and our ability to move forward. So many talented individuals out there really need to hone in on this message …glad you could share it with us to help all move FORWARD. Thank you.
