[Business Practices] The Lost Art of Snail Mail: 3 Ways Using Real Mail Can Boost Your Business

When was the last time you got a Thank You note from someone? For most, it’s probably been a long while. We stumbled upon a great way to boost business, all because we simply wanted to show gratitude and appreciation. As you read this, make sure to send real notes and cards only if they are an expressions of Thanks or appreciation, not just to boost your business. There’s a certain magic that happens when you’re really saying “Thank You” or “I appreciate you” that come through.

1. Send Thank You Notes – There’s nothing that will shock your best clients as a handwritten note from you. But don’t send Thank You notes to just clients. Maritza once sent a Thank You note to Mark Victor Hansen, one of the co-authors of the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series. My thank you was for a speech she’d just heard him give. It inspired her so much, she had to write to tell him. She wasn’t even sure he would ever get it, the note just had to be written. A few weeks later, she received a call from his assistant and Mark hired her to do an event for his top clients.

2. Send Holiday Notes – Every year, we send a New Year’s note to our best clients as well as to movers and shakers in our industry. This has resulted in goodwill, recurring business and brand new opportunities. New Year’s is the perfect holiday to celebrate because it’s virtually un-offendable, particularly if you don’t know their religious beliefs.  Thanksgiving is also a great holiday you can contact anyone about. Or you can make up your own holiday to celebrate in your business.

3. Send Reminders About What’s Next – Send personalized reminders to your clients about other products and services that would be a good fit for them. Don’t be shy about letting them know about another offering you have that could help them. It’s a disservice not to let them know you have something that could help them solve their pain or achieve their desire. Don’t be shy and make sure to clearly let them know what you have and how to get it now.

It’s time to help the struggling post office. Send more Thank You and other kinds of notes. Everyone’s overwhelmed with email and this will stand out more than any email you could ever send. And if you’re using this for business, there are even ways you can personalize real US postage to have your logo on it. The results you’ll get from sending a personal Thank You, a Holiday or What’s Next note will pleasantly surprise you.
