3 Things Stopping Your #Online #Business Success (& How To Make Your 1st Dollar)

asking for money_sm Today, I’ve got a great subscriber question from Lee:

“With so many programs & ways to succeed online WHY do so few make any money online? What is the most effective way for a beginner to make their 1st dollar online?”

There are a lot more people succeeding online than you think, in all kinds of different types of niches and industries. They’re consistently building their businesses and enjoying the results.

The reality is that the majority of people are not willing to do whatever it takes to be successful. We’ve gotten to used to “instant everything” that it’s seems hard for most people to have the patience and staying power to grow a business that is successful and lasts. The one thing I do know for sure is that in any of these online business models, list building is KEY to creating a business that thrives.

My top 3 reasons stopping your business from having more success:

(and of course, what to do instead!)

1. You’re Impatient.

You don’t plant a seed and expect it to immediately pop up a plant, vegetable or flower. Online success isn’t just putting up a website and expecting “build it and they will come”. When you decide to start a weight loss plan, it does not automatically ensure you will lose any weight or get any healthier.

Lots of people decide to start an online business… When they don’t see immediate success, they get discouraged and move on to another type of business, never getting momentum or clarity on the first one. (This is also commonly known as “bright & shiny object syndrome” and is lethal to your business)

What to do instead: [Tweet this:] Make sure you follow the #advice of someone doing what you want to do. Not just a theorist with no real world experience. Also, make sure you are not in “need”. Have some savings stored up before you put all your eggs in the entrepreneurial basket and quit your job. When you NEED to sell, you will repel success. Bright and shiny object syndrome will be your default setting because you feel desperate.

It’s much better to keep your day job, or get a part-time job WHILE you build your business (and hopefully your list which is the one things that will give you long-term freedom)

2. You Don’t Build on Your Failures.

Another reason many jump from business plan to business plan is because you become easily discouraged. To be an entrepreneur, you must cultivate RESILIENCY. You must not allow yourself to be easily discouraged. You must absolutely know that you will fail – the most successful entrepreneurs do – and you must learn to WELCOME failure. Yes, WELCOME FAILURE.

Most people will do anything to avoid failure. We’ve been taught and conditioned to avoid it at all costs. When it does happen, and it will, guaranteed – you beat yourself up. This only serves to make you less confident, less willing to take more risks. Less willing to put your unique voice and products out there.

What to do instead: As an entrepreneur, be sure to look at your failures and find what went wrong, what could go better AND what are the blessings, learning and gifts within that failure.

3. You Don’t Protect Your Energy.

Yes, your energy, your mindset, the things you allow into your mind and surroundings really MATTER.

Try thinking of it this way, would you allow a newborn child to be around a bunch of negative energy? Would you speak to them and beat them up verbally the way you beat yourself up for not being an online success the first time out?

No. You would protect them, encourage a positive environment to give them the best chance of growing up to be successful and confident.

Look at your surroundings. Are you truly setting yourself up for success? Do you have reminders of your business goals? SPECIFIC goals? Do you write them or look at them daily?

Have you moved away from watching negative media? Or are you still listening to all the “doom & gloom” programming? Are you protecting yourself from negative and disempowering conversations? Are there people you want to start protecting your energy from?

What to do instead: Create an empowering morning personal success ritual. Set yourself up for success. This can be motivating and inspiring and will help you move through those times where you just want to give up. (and they will happen!)

The most effective way for a beginner to make their first (of many) dollars online is to find a proven plan that works, create an environment that supports your success, set specific, measurable goals, take action towards them daily, cultivate stick-to-it-iveness and learn from your failures so they transform into stepping stones of success.

In the comments section below, let me know if you’ve experienced any of these things that have kept you from the success you deserve. And, more importantly, what will you do differently today and tomorrow?

Learning and building upon failures, such a great reminder Maritza! Really appreciate the frame of mind you share to take towards earning your 1st dollar. With #2, it reminds me of Thomas Edison saying he found 10,000 ways that didn’t work which eliminated them and ultimately learned from each on his way to becoming a legendary success!

Maritza! Its super great that you mention #2 —about Building Upon Failures. As entrepreneurs, we sometimes see our business journey as quite challenging and can get discouraged by the failures instead of truly examining what went wrong and how we can improve upon it…lessons for us, right? Its about perspective and being able to mindfully shift those circumstances/experiences to help us learn more. And regarding a business plan…oh yeah…its JUST a plan, but it does need to be tweaked, modified, and scultped as we grow and learn. Great post..thank you for the reminders. So appreciated!

Maintaining that positive attitude and using failures to grow. Then, be patient as success is not an overnight process. Too many people preaching or promising unrealistic outcomes that only steal your #3, energy and attitude. Great post Maritza!

I knew when I started my business I was in it for the long haul and long ago I started removing negative and harmful influences from my life – it’s ongoing.

#2 really stands out for me. I’m often trying new things in my business but if they don’t get the results I often lose interest rather than re-calibrate and repeat. I am definitely going to be more open to failure this year.

    Martiza!
WOW. Great timing. Thank you for the wonderful reminders, particularly #1, and more so, #3 over the past 4 months. I have so fallen off the wagon with my morning power hour, and is on the top of my list over the holidays to plan it back in and make it a priority.

Maritza, every point here is right on target. I have never been very patient…. Point 3 for me is a great reminder to manage my time so I can work in my strengths and work on my business. When I let myself get busy and just work in my business the velocity forward decreases.

Have a Merry and Blessed Christmas!

Thanks for this–what I needed to read today! Looking forward to implementing these tips.
