30 Days of LOA – 3 Big Ways You #Profit from #ListBuilding

3 ways to profit with list building Recently I found a new hair stylist and she was doing all the usual small talk when you first meet someone. She was asking about what I do – and I said “One of the things I do is help people build their lists.” She said “Oh cool! So you help people make their to-do lists…”

I started laughing because it was a great example of the “curse of knowledge” that we experts sometimes get blinded with.

Here’s my definition of list building.

“Building a list of your ideal prospects that leverages virtual communication in a smart way to bring in new business, build trust and create quality relationships. So you can consistently serve your subscribers through your products and services!”

List building gives you huge leverage in being able to speak to and make your offers to many people at the same time, instead of selling one to one.

Before I get into the rest of the content – I want to give you a tiny warning – while you’re hearing the 1st two – don’t fall into the easy-out, thinking “Oh, I’ve already heard this stuff” or “this isn’t anything new” – That is a huge cop-out! There is always something you can do to be improving what you’re doing and although the 1st 2 are used well by many marketers – they’re also underutilized by most marketers and online businesses. There is always room for improvement.

To be able to list build you will need:

  1. Your expertise.
    (if you don’t have the expertise and you do have the passion you can be a content curator like Napoleon Hill, Oprah Winfrey, Larry King)
  2. Customer management system.
    Something like aweber, infusionsoft, mailchimp to manage your email contacts database and automate your marketing with autoresponders and broadcasting capabilities.
  3. Your optin page.
    Also called a squeeze page, a list building page – basically it’s a page where there is not other option or distraction for the person who landed on that page – there is only one choice – either enter their information (typically first name and email address) to get whatever free gift is being offered or the other choice is to leave.To make it super easy you can use something like Lead Pages which I love! (You can actually get started building your list before you even have a website using this service)
  4. Your list building free gift.
    This is your invitation to become a subscriber and the whole reason someone will give you their contact information.

Here are 3 big ways you profit from building your list (& the 3rd is the biggest waste I see happening online!):

  1. Autoresponders – These are the automated follow-up emails you pre-program inside your customer management system. In these you want o gradually send some follow-up emails, giving good information and building that relationship with your list community.
  2. Broadcasts – this happens when you email people on your list (or just people in a certain interest section of your list.
    An example of this is whenever I want to sell some of my horse DVDs, I send an email broadcast to my horse list community telling them that the DVDs are on special. There’s always a limiter – in this case an end date for the special offer – to help move them into action.
  3. Thank you page – this is the most forgotten page on the internet! There will never, ever, ever be a time that someone is more excited, more ready, more open to you, your expertise and your offerings than on your Thank you page. They just chose to take an action and psychologically speaking they are going to continue to look for reasons to validate the action they just took. Meaning: it is your perfect moment to give them more of you, so the know, like and trust factor can go up!

Many times people get discouraged because they hear all these huge numbers about building your list, but the truth is (tweet this:) you don’t need a huge list to make a great living online. What you need is focus, consistency, the heart to lead, to give great content and make offers to your list. You might feel your list growth is slow, but please, please, please do not get distracted from it. If you focus on building your list, your business will be able to thrive for years to come.
