The Cocooning Process – Getting Quiet To Hear Your Inner Voice

cocooning process

Whenever you feel you’re going through a time of change, it can be an opportunity for a transformation…

In business (and in life) the only constant is CHANGE.

When it feels overwhelming to the point where it’s difficult to hear my own voice and truth, I always go back into what I call my “Cocoon” to become stronger and find the opportunities in whatever may be happening!

Or it may be the feeling that there is a new direction, a pivot or a big fork in your business road.

During these times, one of the things that is SUPER IMPORTANT is for you to learn to listen to yourself and trust yourself.

YOU are the only one who knows exactly how you want your business to BE and who you want to BECOME.

We’re so used to looking outside of ourselves for the answers… when you are SO much more powerful than you may believe right now.

Especially in moments of change when it can feel like everything is moving underneath you and there is no certainty…

This is an opportunity for transformation.

I’ve written and spoken about this from stage frequently. Many people ask me what “Cocooning” means and how you can do it, so here’s a video below to explain this powerful process.

Here’s the Cocooning Process in a nutshell:

1. Decide you’re worth the time
2. Create a quiet space
3. Declutter that space
4. Meditation that works for you – “one size does not fit all
5. Journaling (in a way that is helpful to you – I now love art journaling)
6. Listen to yourself!

Watch the video below for more on the Cocooning Process:

Change can be fantastic, it can be great…

No matter how “yucky” or uncomfortable it feels at the time.

It can be the doorway to a brand, new, amazing business and life you could barely have imagined!

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly. ~ Anonymous

In a world that wants you to listen to everything OUTSIDE of YOURSELF for guidance…

It’s the most powerful way I’ve found to connect with intuition and find my true path through change.

You’ve probably heard me say:

YOU are the Greatest Untapped Resource In Your Business

This will help you hear your inner voice so you can navigate changes and decisions with more self-trust and courage.

Love,

Love this!!! Particularly the sections on meditation and writing a journal or finding other activities to allow creative expression. So important and yet, I always place it at the bottom of my ‘to do’ list!! I will work on making it more of a priority 🙂

    Wow.

Awesome video! It was very appropriate this morning since I have a lot to get done and feel overwhelmed.

It reminded me I need to just sit back in my cocoon and get clear on what I am about to become and get rid of all the clutter.

My BP has been extremely high this week and it was also suggested that I start a meditation practice.

Extremely timely. Thanks so much Maritza! You rock! 🙂 –Joey

    Maritza,

Thank you for sharing this video – I’ve heard you mention your cocoon in calls and newsletters and I really like seeing the steps you talk about in the video. I have 3 kids so sometimes it can be a little crazy – but I believe as you’ve said that having time for me is important and will make me a better mom and businesswoman! So I’m making a decision right now to declutter and make a little space to think.

    thank you, Caroline

Thanks so much for sharing this video.

First thing I will do is listen again and write down the steps. I have far too much stimulation going on daily. Not doing enough to take care of myself and getting in touch with my feelings.

One thought I have is to cocoon at least one day per week as I continue with my journey toward being true to myself.

I wonder what would happen if everyone in the world would take 30 minutes cocoon at the same time. Not only would the world experience quiet just think about the peace that could happen.

    Maritza,

You definitely are a beautiful, inspiring and motivating butterfly! Love the video. It is so important as a mom, a business owner and just as a person to take time to re-energize and re-organize yourself. I have done some of these steps but none of them all together as a process.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I have to say, you really are incredible with the tech stuff you are doing! Very impressive!

Making my decision to do this now!

    Well done again Maritza,

Being able to write down your experiences in a meaningful way and make them look easy and fun is a wonderful talent you are developing!

I think it’s paramount to give yourself time to think and explore what’s true and valuable in your life. Having appreciation or gratitude as part of your daily awareness is an awesome tip. I currently do not write them down which might be my next step, but do connect with the loving heart and the humbleness to enjoy the smallest of things, like taking my next breath.

Some of the benefits in giving yourself quiet and loving time will be to identify and discern which direction/path to pursue in life as we journey home to the heart of God. It will also create clarity, enthusiasm that will energize your body and mind with pure spirit.

Thank you for sharing your loving and caring self,

    Lovely video, Maritza.

I think those who pray or meditate as a daily practice are more practised when it comes to cocooning but if atheists don’t follow this practice their emotional systems can soon become overloaded and people become completely distanced from themselves.

Your first point about giving yourself the time (that was the first point, wasn’t it? Oops – I’ll have to watch it again now) was very important and when I first started this kind of practice I had to force myself to be more ‘selfish’ with the understanding it would help me to offer others more as a result (which it has).

I remember watching those Beauty adverts on TV where a lady says ‘Because you’re worth it’ and I would think back ‘you’re so right I am’.

I’ve found journalling and writing also very helpful but with the negative material for a while I had to focus on it with a view to getting rid of it (not festering on it but deliberately targeting it for elimination). I treated the negative stuff objectively and let it float by, gradually replacing negative thoughts with positive alternatives.

Ooh, your video’s made me feel all cosy and warm.

    🙂

Thank you all so much for these beautiful and thoughtful comments! I actually hadn’t realized but I’ve been in a bit of a “cocoon” mode for the last 4 months… I went to the Teleseminar Secrets Reunion in San Francisco and when I returned my cable wasn’t working. Every once in a while, I go and turn on my tv and remember that I have to call the cable company to get it turned on again, but then something happens and I don’t…

…and there are some HUGE changes happening in my life. Beautiful things that I never would have seen happen (and I will be sharing very soon in a vide series)

The transformation I’m undergoing right now makes me believe that ANYTHING is possible as long as you do 3 things:

    1. Listen to your Inner Voice to be Crystal Clear on what you want.
    2. Focusing on what you want works.
    3. Taking persistent (though sometimes a little *scary*) action towards those dreams makes miracles happen in your life.

I can’t wait to share the miracles that are happening in my life and hopefully, help inspire as many people as possible to…

Believe in the Power of YOU!

    Love, Maritza

    Maritza…

I can’t site the exact study, but I can tell the story:

I used to raise Monarch butterflies as a kid in Miami. Watching a butterfly leave it’s cocoon is an awesome experience. It involves struggle, but what comes out is a beautiful creature that can fly!

Well, somehow scientists figured out how to get butterflies out of their cocoon with out the struggle. Seemed like a good idea at the time, I guess.

What the researchers discovered though was the butterflies that did not go through the struggle of leaving their cocoons were less vibrant in color, less mobile in their flight, and did not live as long.

Whereas the butterflies that went thru the gift of the struggle were more vibrant, flew better, and lived longer.

    Long live the cocoon…

Dear Maritza CHRIST (As everyone is, in actuality)
Your cocooning video succinctly presents an ancient spiritual
method of truely living a highly productive, happy spiritual life.
These same conclusions can be reached after years of study of many metaphysical authors including Joel Goldsmith, Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Emmet Fox, Deepak Choppra, and Eric Butterworth. There are probably dozens more that belong on this list. I am presently studying “A Course in Miracles” and the Abraham-Hicks material which would both certainly agree with your video.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!!

    Maritza,

I want to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed being “cocooned” in mud with you 🙂 It was an amazing experience to share with you and it also allowed for some amazing “alone time” for inner reflection and meditation. (Lorna)

We also found it amazing to watch another transformation happening before our eyes 🙂 It is a part of our lives and our memories that we will treasure always.

Possibilities are endless… discovering our own possibilities and living into them are what make our lives complete. Cocooning and self reflection are a wonderful way to get in touch with our path.

Thank you so much Maritza for the wonderful video and for you being you. We are truly blessed to call you our friend.

    Maritza,
Your video about cocooning was very timely for me, I really enjoyed the way under which you discussed your own journey and the transformation. I don’t yet entirely understand for me what the process will be that works but you have been a great source of encouragement and Inspiration and I just had to say thanks!

    God Bless and take care,

    Eugene

    Hello Maritza,
It is wonderful to see you on this video. Thank you for sharing it. I know that this works… I actually received some information from my mother who is the Light about the process of the caterpillar! So… I can really understand what you are talking about in this video!

I wish we connect again to continue with the work we started two years ago. I feel like limping through life with this unfinished process. So much has happened to me!!!

I will be in San Antonio until the middle of June before I go back to Costa Rica.

    Much love and many blessings,

    Ligia

Great post Maritza! This is a nice reminder during the busy Christmas holidays. Even short amounts of time alone can recharge me, and now more than ever I need that time!

Happy Holidays to you, Jeff and all your loved ones!

    Maritza,

This is perfect timing for me. On 12/31 I’m transitioning into working from home full time as both a writer and virtual assistant. In some ways, I’ll have a lot more time than I do now, because I’ve been working a full-time job plus writing, editing and doing VA work on the side.

Though I’ll have more time, I also know that I’ll have many, many distractions and things competing for my time and attention, and the stresses of running my own business. Your video was a great reminder that I need to take time to just be still, in the midst of growing my business. Thanks for the reminder!

    • Maritza Parra on December 6, 2011 at 7:52 pm

Congratulations Rebecca on your transition! That’s exciting!

Maritza, thank you for sharing the inspiration and your 6 steps for cocooning. It’s surely the ultimate to providing an environment for what every business needs to be successful, time to focus.

Number 4 really hits home with me. For meditation comes in such a wide array of formats and mine sure have changed throughout the years. Back in the day when bookstores were so popular, I used to pick a book I really want to zone in on. Well instead of reading it like everyone else at a desk or table in the bookstore, I would wander off to the music section. Would stand right next to the classical music and put on a pair of headphones and listen to the sample CD’s they had while quietly reading and contemplating in-between.

Another example for me is when I’m traveling alone and catching a flight. Always feels like I can solve world peace while streaming high above at 30K+ feet…my mind goes into such a great state of meditation…

I could go on and on…thank you for reminding me of how important cocooning is and the memories I now recall when thinking back on the ways I have done so.

Great suggestions, Maritza! I’m a HUGE fan of journalling, and when I do journal, I always start with “Today I am thankful for’….to get the ball rolling and start on a positive note.
