Social Media: Is Your Content Empty or Engaging?

I saw this quote in an info-graphic on Facebook recently:

“What matters most in life isn’t how much money you have, it’s about quotes and stuff that tell you what life is really about. And here is a cat.”

(And there was, in fact, a picture of a cat)

Is Social Media really that vain and empty?

Well, it can be.

Especially if the content you share is vain and empty.

You see, unless you have thousands of people pathologically interested in what you had for lunch , you still need good content. Even if it’s only a Facebook update or a Twitter Tweet of 140 characters or less.

On our Social Media platforms, you need content, I need content, all God’s children need content. Even if you are strictly being social with no business involvement at all, you still need engaging content to keep people coming back for more.

Recently we caught Oprah on her OWN channel interviewing magician and performer David Copperfield. A really good interview. When asked what he struggles with the most, Copperfield responded:

“Coming up with new content for the show.”

See that, even a guy that owns a chain of 11 islands in the Bahamas has to come up with engaging, compelling and entertaining new content.

And it’s the same for you and I.

I guess if we can find out what types of problems or unanswered questions the audience has then we can create a compelling and engaging content! But is that enough or should we also focus on the style and delivery of the content?
